Ong Ly is a small village in the mountainous remote area of Moc Chau, Son La. The area is home to a small minority of underprivileged indigenous groups. Many children are forced to walk 5-8km just to arrive at school everyday; motorised transportation is not accessible in these regions and paths are windy and hazardous. In the winter and raining seasons, the paths can become acutely more challenging as cold temperatures and thin air risk the health of the children.
AusAid has decided to sponsor the construction of a new school in the area, with support from local companies and the Green Leave organisation. A library was also setup with 350 books of all types. The project was carried out in 2016.
